The African Feminist accepts submissions on a rolling basis.

We are creating a network of thinkers, storytellers and creatives. 
We aim to bring the stories that go untold to the forefront so we accept submissions in different formats (essays, photography, prose etc.)

Written Works: Articles, Prose, Poetry & Reviews 

We are always interested in articles, prose, poetry and reviews relating to feminism, Africa and the diaspora. The articles can address anything and everything from politics, economics, social and cultural commentary and science or technology. 

To submit written works, please send us an email with a pitch or the first draft of the piece.

If you would like a recurring column with us please send us a pitch and a writing sample. 

Word count: 800 to 2,500 words. (Please note that this word count may not apply to poems)

Photography

We are currently accepting photographs, short films and photo essays that communicate and analyse themes and stories relating to African and the diaspora. Again, these can be anything from politics, economics, social and cultural commentary and science or technology. 

Please ensure images are high-resolution (exceptions are made for certain video art/format) and if you are submitting a video please ensure that it is not in violation of any copyright laws. 

The word count for photo essays is: 800 to 2,500 words.

Audio

We also welcome audio submissions including but not limited to: interviews and recitation of written works. Audio may accompany your other submissions  or stand-alone submissions. 

Please submit all audio files in an mp3 format.

We only accept original pieces that have not been published elsewhere. Please let us know if you have submitted your work elsewhere for publication and whether it has been accepted. 

The African Feminist will not accept any work that is plagarised or in violation of any copyright laws.
